I am Dr. Amy LaRue, a Vermont-licensed Naturopathic Doctor. I have been helping women uplevel their health and tackle hormonal issues for the past 10 years. In my experience, symptoms are the body’s way of providing clues to guide us in the direction of what needs healing. I spent several years working through my own diagnoses of unexplained infertility, endometriosis and PCOS. I truly understand the impact these conditions have on our mental and physical health.
My approach to women’s health is to look at the whole picture and determine which organ systems are contributing to what may seem like a simple diagnosis. The journey to optimal health is a team effort! It takes time and commitment to discover root causes of disease and dysfunction. There are often many levels to healing that are uncovered as we begin peeling back layers. One thing is certain to me, your body has a deep, innate desire for balance and to heal.
Although I graduated from LSU with a degree in Dietetics/premed, it would take me 7 years to find Naturopathic Medicine. I knew shortly after taking the MCAT and reading about med school and residency life that conventional medicine was not for me. Even in my 20’s I knew intuitively that holistic and natural approaches were the answer to restoring health. However, I didn’t know what else was out there. After college, I moved out west, to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to ‘live a little’ and stayed for 7 years. The endless beauty of the Teton mountain range is truly God’s country. Living a lifestyle immersed in nature brought me closer to my calling. I eventually attended a conference on natural health and wellness where I was introduced to naturopathic medicine and knew immediately it was the type of healthcare that I wanted to practice. Soon after, I moved to Portland, Oregon and attended the National University of Natural Medicine. During my 4 years of naturopathic medical school, I grew passionate about women’s health, in part, because I was navigating my own unexplained infertility, very painful periods and anxiety.
Shortly after graduation I moved to beautiful Bend, Oregon where I established a private women’s health practice for 4 years before moving back to my home state of Mississippi. We had 3 children 3 years old and younger and needed the daily support of grandparents. We enjoy beach life and being able to golf cart all around our small town.
DO ANY OF THESE SOUND LIKE YOU?
✔️ You feel like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster every month, especially a week or two before your period.
✔️ You sometimes have a crazy heavy period where you are scared to even leave the house, much less wear white!
✔️ Your period cramps feel like you are in labor and can be totally debilitating.
✔️ You’re either crying or yelling at everything and everyone before your period.
✔️ Your energy seems to change drastically throughout the month.
✔️ You have nights of insomnia and terrible sleep during the month.
✔️ You have low sex drive.
✔️ You often feel depressed, anxious, unmotivated and blah throughout the month.
✔️ You have strong cravings for sweets, carbs and rich food before your period.
IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.
Your body was divinely created to have a natural rhythm throughout the month that flows easily and effortlessly.
A whopping 90% of us suffer from PMS which includes a collection of symptoms: mood swings, sore breasts, acne, headaches, bloating, weight gain and more EVERY month. These symptoms can interfere with relationships and normal daily activities.
Not to mention the actual period problems women have when they are bleeding. Ranging from cramps and heavy bleeding to excruciating pain and leaking through a tampon every hour. This is NOT normal physiology!
The typical solution… birth control, unfortunately, just shuts down the body’s natural production of hormones and masks the actual issues. (It also lowers testosterone, alters the gut microbiome, depletes certain vitamins).
In my opinion, treating this way is a disservice to women.
When you harness this power, you can drastically change your mood, energy, productivity and overall health.
Are you ready to get in sync with your body’s natural cycle and ditch period problems and hormonal ups and downs?
I have worked with countless women in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s that have no idea what a normal, healthy menstrual cycle is supposed to look like. If this sounds like you, it's not your fault. No one teaches girls and young women the ins and outs of a happy, healthy hormone cycle. Most women I work with don’t know when or if they ovulate which is KEY for a stellar cycle (not just for pregnancy).
P.S. Happy hormones translate to other areas of your health too! Think mood, memory, gut health, weight & emotional wellbeing.
I provide a holistic, natural and individualized approach to managing your cycle and fixing your hormone issues.
Your body is unique and deserves time and attention to determine the root cause of your symptoms. The hormonal (endocrine) system is usually not the only one that is out of balance. Other organ systems like the gut and brain (think anxiety/depression) also affect the way your body produces hormones.
Instead I empower women to really understand how our unique biology works. Let’s figure out what is going on with your body in the first place that allows it to manifest these symptoms. Are there nutrient depletions, low or high hormones, inability to manage stress, a lack of awareness about the cycle, an overload of hormone disrupting chemicals, emotional stress?
This is my passion. I love investigating what is happening in a woman’s body that is causing the misalignment. I educate you on how to feel your best in YOUR body. This takes time and commitment, which is why I start my new hormone clients off with a 5 month package. Generally, hormonal issues take a minimum of 3 months to see significant changes as we have to wait for each new cycle to be completed.
